  • Paper Collage Bookmark
  • From "Crafters Coast to Coast"
    episode HCC2C-136F

    PHOTO
Project by Deb Dormody of Pawtucket, R.I.

Deb took a bookbinding class and ended up taking apart all her books at home to figure out how they were assembled. That led to bookmaking, and that has lead to bookmarks, of course, like this collage bookmark.

    Materials:

    2-1/2" x 6-1/2" card stock
assorted scraps of paper for collage
    sewing machine
    thread
    PVA glue
    scissors
    hobby knife or cutting board
    ribbons
    beads
    paper punch

    Steps:

    1. Using interesting scraps of paper, assemble a collage balancing colors and shapes on the card stock. Glue all your pieces down.

    2. Cut out a fun picture and glue over the collage toward the top. Add some text below it, like a favorite quote or a funny saying.

    3. Embellish your bookmark even more by machine sewing decorative lines, or photocopy transfers, rubber stamping, adding a ribbon to the top for place-keeping, or laminating your bookmark with clear contact paper.
