Materials:
pine
leather hides
copper, brass and/or aluminum
stain
paint
sandpaper
miter saw
glue
brad nails
hammer
photography/artwork
patina (other chemicals to antique the piece)
Steps:1. Stain pine, allow it to dry, and sand it smooth, revealing an antiqued look.
2. Cut the wood into the desired lengths on a miter saw, with mitered ends, creating a clean professional looking 90-degree corner (figure A). Those corners are glued and brad-nailed into boxes of various shape and size (figure B).
3. Now the creative process begins. Apply the final color and adorn the boxes with metal, other wood, leather, photography/artwork, and combinations of other boxes.
The metal could be aluminum, copper or brass. It could be hammered, treated with chemicals to antique or patina it, and cut into any shape (figure C).
Other woods and leather pieces could be colored or textured and cut into any shape, like the back piece (figure D).
Photos and/or artwork are chosen to add to or create a theme for the box. This is all attached together in various ways and lacquered to gloss.
