Project by Jordan Crane of Los Angeles, Calif.Jordan is an illustrator and cartoonist. He learned how to silkscreen years ago so he could make T-shirts for his friends' bands. In this project, he makes a dramatic two-color silkscreen print.
Materials:
paper
pencils
silk screens
emulsion
oil
ink
Steps:1. Draw the image, primary and secondary colors (figure A).
2. Blow the image up to print size and output separations at local copy shop (figure B).
3. Coat screens with emulsion and wait for them to dry.
4. Rub separations with oil to make them translucent.
5. Expose separations and screens to sunlight (figure C).
6. Wash screens out, thereby making positives for printing (figure D).
7. Affix screen to printing table and register the paper under it.
8. Print first color (figure E). Wash ink off of first screen
9. Register second color on the table. Print second color. Wash out second screen.
