thin silver tube
sterling silver thin tapered tube
2mm 24-gauge jump ring
2" of 24-gauge silver round wire
1" of 12-gauge silver wire

two 3mm peridot stones
mother of pearl button
bezel cup to fit mother of pearl button
freshwater pearl
sterling silver pin back and clasp
manila folder
pencil
shears
black permanent marker
jeweler's saw
saw blades
drill
small drill bit
engraving tool
stone-setting tools
small jeweler's torch
flux with small brush
solder
pickling compound
crock pot
Steps:1. Draw your design true to size (figure A). This helps to get a feel for scale and is used to make a template. Then make a template out of card stock.
2. Use template to trace design on sheet silver and cut out pieces using a jeweler's saw (figure B).
3. Make remaining pieces out of silver tubing, round silver wire, and bezel wire, available at a jewelry supply store
4. Solder pieces together (figure C). There are 17 solder joints in this project. Erin uses a small jeweler's torch (propane/oxygen). After soldering, soak the piece in an acid bath.
5. Solder pin connection to the back of the piece.
6. Saw out the middle of a mother of pearl button (figure D), and create a rivet using silver wire and riveting hammer.
7. Create texture by engraving a design on the wings and drilling holes.
8. Brush the piece with a very fine brass brush to give the silver a soft finish.
9. Set stones (two peridot stones for eyes and the button for the body).
10. Create movement by hanging a freshwater pearl at the end of the tail (figure E).
