Project by Sara Felix from Austin, Texas. In this project, Sara's playful side shines when she uses Korean clay to create her "flying pig."
Materials:
air-dry clay
paintbrush, stick, etc.
Steps:1. Mix the red and white clay together, about two parts white and one part red, with a small bit of yellow, to create piggy pink.
2. From this mixed pink clay, form a ball for the body, one for the head, four for the legs, two for the ears, one for the snout, and one for the tail.
3. Form two small balls of white and black for the eyes, and two balls of white for the wings.
4. Form the ball body into an egg shape. Attach the head to the front of the body (figure A). The clay sticks together without anything else needed.
5. Roll the leg balls into cylinders and taper one end. Attach the tapered ends to the body (see again figure A).
6. Form the ear balls of clay into triangles and attach to the head. Squish the snout slightly so there is a flat front, and attach it to the face. Using the end of a paintbrush or other small stick, make two dimples in the nose for nostrils (figure B).
7. For the tail: Make a snake, curl it, and attach it to the back (figure C).
8. Form the wing balls into a triangle shape. Using the paintbrush, press into the clay to make ridges on the long side of the triangle, and attach it to the back of the pig.
9. For the eyes: Add the white clay balls and then the black to the front of the face.
