In this episode, of DIY's
Waterscapes workshop, the main elements for the water garden come together. The pump, skimmer and waterfall are connected, prep work is done for the pond liner, and the pond liner and underlayment are then installed. In the opening segment, water-garden expert Rick Bartel discusses the steps and equipment needed for connecting the water pump and skimmer. According to Rick, the skimmer is the "heartbeat" of the pond system. It circulates the water, providing oxygenation, and contains a series of filters that keeps the pond clean. Rick and Heidi then move on to completing the pump, skimmer and waterfall connections using PVC cement. Once the connections are made, the skimmer and waterfall are permanently anchored using concrete. Finally, the pond liner and protective underlayment are put in place.
