    Repairing Furniture
If staining is too big a project for right now, how about tackling some smaller fixes, like the cracks in your leather couch, that tear in your upholstery or the watermarks on your coffee table? Try some instant-fix products that will help you do all of that in just minutes, and they cost less than $20.

    • Leather furniture. Try some mink oil on leather furniture to freshen it up. Just apply it with a cloth. You can even use your hands. The treatment will last about six months. The oil will keep the leather moist; if it dries out, it can crack.

    • Torn fabric. Tear Mender works on fabrics as well as leather. You can fix checks in leather in 15 seconds. You can even hem skirts with it.
    • Furniture tops. Howard Restor-a-Finish gets rid of heat rings and watermarks on fine furniture. You saturate 0000 steel wool (be sure it's 0000; the more zeroes, the finer the steel wool), then rub carefully with the grain of the wood. The product is available in nine colors ranging from neutral to ebony brown. Look for it in antique stores and furniture stores. You can also try extra-virgin olive oil for small marks and nicks.

Another great tip for water rings on furniture: If it's fresh, just set your blow dryer on low, and aim it at that ring. It'll dry it right off your table in no time.
