Choosing a Grill There are some great grills on the market that bring the convenience of kitchen cooking to the great outdoors. Here are some pointers on features to look for in But high-quality grills that will last.
- Decide if you want gas or charcoal. Gas is convenient and clean, but many experts swear that it doesn't provide the same flavor as charcoal.
- The Weber Q has a cast-iron grate that provides nice, even heat. Once it's cooled down, you can fold up the grill, cart and all, and store it in its bag. That makes it very portable.
The classic Weber is hugely popular, but it has its limitations. There was no place to put the food before or after cooking it; the lid was awkward to handle, and you had the problem of starting the charcoal. The Weber Performer, though, has a lid that is easy to open and stays up by itself. It also has a propane-gas lighter, which gets the charcoal going faster, and a counter for food. It even has a bin for storing charcoal.
Weber's Summit Platinum Series has some of the biggest and best grills on the market. The grills are all stainless-steel construction and have multiple burners, as well as a side burner, and provide a huge cooking surface. They are available for natural gas or propane.
Electrolux, known for vacuum cleaners has just entered the grilling market. They also make high-end kitchen appliances under the Icon brand. The grill cabinet is all stainless steel; the drawers have the same kind of glides and styles you find in kitchen cabinets. They provide infrared heat, which is great for searing steaks.
The Big Green Egg has ceramic walls that hold the heat like a Dutch oven. The exterior stays relatively cool; it's safe to touch. You can smoke meats and even bake in this grill.
