Machining student Carl Battles ignites his love for rocketry as he constructs a rocket test stand from raw metal parts. At Pickens Technical College, instructor Mike Townsend gives a helping hand to Carl's ambitious project. Using a machining lathe and milling machine, Carl creates parts to launch the test stand of his dreams.
