Master potter Bill van Gilder throws a rounded jar with a fitted lid on the potter's wheel. He splits the rim of the jar to form a ledge for the lid. The lid is thrown like a shallow bowl. He has examples of additional garlic jars with different hole patterns that demonstrate the beautiful and unique characteristic of this project.
