Master potter Bill van Gilder introduces the clay extruder. The extruded clay is assembled over a wheel-thrown mold to form a hand-built basket. Shaped "dies" make a variety of extruded parts from which Bill weaves the basket. This episode includes a field trip to the studio of Neal Patterson and Sandi Pierantozzi, who compare hand-building techniques to wheel work.
