In this episode of
DIY Lighting Design, the home office is tackled. The room is filled with plenty of sunlight, but, unfortunately, it gets most of its use at night. This office space also doubles as a guestroom, and the lighting does neither justice. The homeowners have a makeshift office space with their computer set up against the window. A futon represents what little semblance to a guest bedroom the space offers. One tiny lamp has been designated the "reading lamp," but provides inadequate light for reading or much of anything else. Designer Shane Meder comes to the rescue to bring two rooms in one to light, using paint as a light source to lighten and enlarge the room and creative and task lighting design to help the room succeed in serving its dual function. Also featured in this episode is a bathroom that has no windows. It's too small for an expensive, conventional sunlight, so
DIY Lighting Design introduces the Sky Tube as a do-it-yourself alternative to bringing natural light into a dark space.
