How many homeowners have made this mistake? A lovely and expensive renovation of a kitchen space, with one notable exception -- the lighting. This wonderful kitchen in a Craftsman home features hardwood floors, dark hardwood cabinets and black countertops. Unfortunately, a series of cans in the ceiling provide just about the only light in the room. There is no under-counter task lighting, two ineffectual spots above the sink and one lonely pendant above the breakfast bar at the far end of the room. The window above the sink always remains shuttered because of the close proximity of the next-door neighbor's house. The space over the cabinets offers a shadowy, empty area that accents the overall darkness of the room. Designer Betty Raburn steps up to the challenge of bringing light of both task and design variety to this beautiful kitchen space, including installation of a brand new garden window that lets the sun shine in.
