Jill, Chris and their son, Ian, moved into a charming 1940's Cape Cod three years ago. A previous owner opened up the adjoining porch to the kitchen, but it's a little awkward because it has a lowered ceiling and step-down floor and the former eating space is now just an empty spot. They tried to add a freestanding island, but it looks out of place. They've updated the flooring with a marble-style laminate, but the rest of the neutral kitchen needs a boost, so in just 48 hours we're going to help them out, creating a more usable work space with a warm Tuscan style that was inspired by their honeymoon trip to Italy.
In the first episode the kitchen is cleared out. The archway from the kitchen to the eating area is reconfigured to create a doorway that now makes a spot for the refrigerator and the new cabinetry. A new sub-floor is installed in anticipation of the new Marmoleum flooring and the plumbing is prepped for the new wall-mount faucet.
