An established garden is easier to plant in the spring, provided it is well prepared in the fall. In this episode of
Fresh From the Garden, Joe shows how to prepare the garden for winter. As the crops are harvested and the planting beds emptied, he shows how to add compost or manure to them. A balanced fertilizer will also needs to be worked into the beds. Once the amendments are in the bed, Joe shows how to broadcast seed winter rye over the bed. If kept moist, the seeds will germinate in a few days. Joe also shows how to clean and store the garden tools, hoses and cold frame. The trellises should be stored indoors as well.
