When modern designers create lamps and other lighting fixtures, their approach is the same as for creating furniture. Form follows function. In this episode, host Amy Devers makes an inexpensive chandelier using something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue. Carla wants to use her quirky design flair to create a sleek timeless look in her living room, and her white ceiling fan isn't helping. Carla's wood veneer pieces and hardwood floor are not integrated effectively into the eclectic mix. She needs a way to accent these pieces with some special overhead lighting. The solution is this: a two-tiered lampshade made of thin strips of wood and ribbon.
