Furniture designers often choose specific materials to invoke a certain mood in a space, like using translucent materials to expand our perception of a small space by adding a sense of light. The clutter of television remotes and magazines on the futon disrupts the minimalist feel of Susan's den. The challenge is to create a solution for the harsh lighting and the disorder resulting from a lack of storage. Today host Amy Devers builds an end table made from translucent red and clear acrylic that's also a lamp. She'll demonstrate some cool techniques for cutting and bending acrylic and how to put the table together with an adhesive so strong that it's used in skyscrapers.
