Steps: 1. Wrap the tape measure around the votive to determine its circumference. Add 1-1/4 inch to this measurement. (This will allow the ends of the rawhide panel to overlap when wrapped around the container.)
2. Use a pencil and straightedge to draw a rectangular shape on the poster board that is as high as the container and as wide as the measurement you determined in step 1 (figure A).
3. Mark a vertical guideline next to one of the short edges that is 1/4 inch from the edge. Draw another guideline 1/2 inch from the first one. On the opposite edge, mark one vertical guideline 3/8 inch from the edge. Draw another guideline 1/2 inch away from it (figure B).
4. Along all four guidelines, mark eight equally-spaced vertical holes on top of the punch board. Use the drive punch mallet to punch out the holes.
5. Soak the rawhide in a clean tub of water until it becomes pliable. Transfer it to a large, clean cutting surface. Use the pattern as a guide to cut out the rawhide wrap with the knife and straightedge. Punch holes as designated on the pattern using the 3/32-inch drive punch (figure C).
6. Soak the rawhide lace in water for approximately 10 minutes or until it is pliable. Thread each of the lace ends onto a two-prong needle (figure D).
7. Wrap the rawhide around the container with the 3/8-inch edge overlapping the opposite edge.
8. Thread the lace from the underside of the wrap through the two top or bottom holes of both layers of rawhide, and pull lace out so that it is centered (figure E).
9. Thread both lace ends in a crisscross pattern until reaching the opposite edge of the rawhide (figure F). Secure the ends of the lace with a knot. The knot may be on the outside or hidden under the rawhide wrap.
10. Once the rawhide has dried, apply bronze paint to the rubber stamp image with a cosmetic sponge or a rubber brayer. Stamp the image on the rawhide surface (figure G).
