Steps:1. To make the tulip: Cut fuchsia two-sided paper into two 2-1/2" x 2-1/2" squares, two 2-1/4" x 2-1/4" squares, and two 1-3/4" x 1-3/4" squares. 2. Turn squares on the diagonal, like a diamond, to begin. Fold bottom point up to form a triangle (figure A). Open the piece flat. 3. Fold left point over to right (figure B). Open the piece flat. Flip piece over so wrong side is facing up (figure C).
4. Fold the piece in half to make a rectangle (figure D).
5. Open the piece flat and repeat the previous step, folding side to side. 6. With both hands, grasp the folded edge of the piece. Bring both thumbs toward the center, forming a layered diamond shape (figure E). There will be two flaps on each side. 7. Fold the side points of the top flaps in toward the middle about 1/4 to 1/8 inch (figure F), depending on the size of the square you are using. Secure with adhesive (figure G).
8. Flip the piece over and repeat the first step. Allow pieces to dry before continuing.9. Separate the open end and place your finger inside. Push up on the bottom and out on the sides (figure H). 10. Curl the points out around your finger (figure I).
11. Using the point of the scissors, make a small hole in the bottom of the tulip. Repeat with all pieces.12. To make the stem: Cut the green paper into two 3-3/4" x 3-3/4" squares, two 3-1/2" x 3-1/2" squares, two 2-3/4" x 2-3/4" squares, and one 3-1/2" x 3" rectangle. 13. With a square of green paper, fold the upper right corner down to the lower left corner to create a triangle. Open the piece flat. 14. Fold the left edge over to the center crease. Fold the top edge over to the center crease (figure J). 15. Fold the bottom edge over to the center crease. A boning tool may be helpful here due to the thickness of the paper layers (figure K). 16. Repeat the previous step with right edge (figure L).
17. Fold the piece in half lengthwise to form a triangle (figure M). 18. Place a line of adhesive one third of the way up from the bottom to the top point. 19. Fold the triangle in half along the center crease line. Hold the piece closed with a paperclip if necessary. Allow pieces to dry before continuing (figure N). 20. Holding your piece by the glued edge pull the point of the back piece down (like you are peeling a banana) to create the leaf (figure O). Repeat with all pieces.
21. To assemble: Place a generous amount of adhesive inside the tulip over the small hole. Choose the stem size according to the size of the flower. Insert the point of the stem into the small hole in the bottom of the tulip (figure P). Let dry completely before handling.22. Prepare journaling or title information. Mount your photo to the back of the shadow box. Use glue dots to adhere the standing tulips to the inside of the shadow box bottom. Arrange as desired (figure Q). Mount journaling in the center of the arrangement.
