    alternative design
    Steps:

    1. Start by preparing the background of the page. Glue yellow paper over green cardstock.

    2. Add pictures matted on green and yellow squares of paper (figure A).

    3. To make letter tiles: From yellow card stock, cut one 2-inch square, three 1-1/2-inch squares, and four 1-1/4-inch squares.

    4. From green card stock, cut one 2-inch square, three 1-1/2-inch squares, four 1-1/4-inch squares. Tear out centers of all green squares and roll edges to outside to create frames (figure B).

    5. Adhere black letter stickers to yellow squares and top with torn, rolled green frames. Adhere letter tiles that spell out "Cute as a..." The quilled ladybug completes title.

    6. To make the ladybug: Roll red 12-inch strips of paper to make half circles for wings (figure C).

    7. Roll a 4-inch strip of black paper into a loose circle to make the head (figure D).

    8. Roll a 2-inch strip of black paper to make antennae. Pinch to make a V scroll (figure E).

    9. Roll ladybug wings rolled into half circles. Make seven black paper dots with a hole punch to embellish ladybug wings. Assemble (figure F) and glue all ladybug pieces to a 2-inch square of yellow card stock.

    10. To make the ladybug tile: Glue a green frame over the yellow square with ladybug showing (figure G).

    11. To make the caterpillar: Roll 11 tight circles using 10-inch strips of green paper for the body. Make the head using a 12-inch strip rolled tightly.

    12. Roll 3-inch black strip into a V scroll to make the antennae. Fold black 1-inch strips to create feet and legs.

    13. Assemble all parts and glue on the page (figure H).

    14. To make two bees: Make two black teardrop rolls for bodies using 6-inch strips and two black circles for heads using 4-inch strips.

    15. Roll a 2-inch strip into a V scroll for antennae. Make two yellow teardrops for wings using 6-inch strips.

    16. Assemble bees and glue to page.

    17. Use a black pen to draw dash lines for accents.

    How to Quill Shapes

Using a small skewer or quilling pin:

V Scroll: Fold the paper strip in half and roll each end toward the outside.

Half Circle: Roll a loose circle and glue end. Seeing the circle as a clock, pinch at 7 o'clock and 5 o'clock and pull tight to flatten one side of the circle.

Teardrop: Roll a loose circle and glue end. Pinch one side of the circle into a teardrop.
