    Figure D

Thirteen-year-old Emily Golen of Ypsilanti, Mich., called in to share her terra cotta candle holders. Golen explains how kids can get in on the act this holiday season by making these gifts for family and friends. She creates candle holders using stacked terra cotta pots and paint (figure D). First, she glues the pots with the bottoms together and paints them a solid color. Next, she glues on buttons and paints on details, then fills the pots with melted candle wax, and adds a wick.
