Carol and guest Mari Blaustein use the imprints of their hands to make molds for a special menorah. The candles are added to complete this traditional symbol of the Jewish holiday of Hannukah.
Materials:
large container sand water plaster of Paris 9 3/8" metal nuts Elmer's glue 9 candles
Steps: - Pour sand into a large container and dampen the sand.
- Hook your thumbs together, put your fingers together and put your hands in the damp sand to make an imprint.
- Have a partner pat mounds of sand around your hands.
- Lift your hands slowly.
- Mix up plaster of Paris. Mari says her measuring system is to put in handfuls of the plaster of Paris powder into the water until the powder stops sinking.
- Pour plaster of Paris onto the impression of the hands.
- Allow 30 to 40 minutes to set.
- Lift the plaster mold out and dust it off.
- Lay the mold flat and glue a 3/8" nut onto the surface of each finger.
- Insert the candles into the nuts.
* You can glue a larger nut where your thumbs are for a larger candle in the middle of the menorah.
