    episode CDS-167
    advertisement

Carol and guest Mari Blaustein use the imprints of their hands to make molds for a special menorah. The candles are added to complete this traditional symbol of the Jewish holiday of Hannukah.

    Materials:

    large container
    sand
    water
    plaster of Paris
    9 3/8" metal nuts
    Elmer's glue
    9 candles

    Steps:

    1. Pour sand into a large container and dampen the sand.
    2. Hook your thumbs together, put your fingers together and put your hands in the damp sand to make an imprint.
    3. Have a partner pat mounds of sand around your hands.
    4. Lift your hands slowly.
    5. Mix up plaster of Paris. Mari says her measuring system is to put in handfuls of the plaster of Paris powder into the water until the powder stops sinking.
    6. Pour plaster of Paris onto the impression of the hands.
    7. Allow 30 to 40 minutes to set.
    8. Lift the plaster mold out and dust it off.
    9. Lay the mold flat and glue a 3/8" nut onto the surface of each finger.
    10. Insert the candles into the nuts.
    * You can glue a larger nut where your thumbs are for a larger candle in the middle of the menorah.
