    Materials:

5-5/8" square Canson Mi-Tientes paper (bottom of box)
6-1/2" square of brocade or other fabric (lid)
6" square of Canson Mi Tientes self-adhesive paper (lid )
    ruler
    scissors
    bone folder (creasing tool)
    cutting mat
    rotary cutter
    pencil
    non-fray glue (optional)

    Steps:

    1. To make the box bottom: Draw pencil lines on the wrong side of the 5-5/8" bottom paper from corner to corner diagonally (figure A).

    2. Fold all corners up to the center at the pencil line intersection (figure B). This creates a smaller square.

    3. Fold one side over to the center of the square (figure C).

    4. Then fold the opposite side to the center line (figure D). Crease edges .

    5. Unfold the two previous folds (back to the smaller square) and repeat folding /creasing the remaining two sides. Open up this last fold too, ending up with the smaller square again.

    6. Make two cuts each on two opposite sides of the paper along the creases to the first inner crease (figure E).

    7. Fold one of the two larger corners to the center on its crease. Again fold over this side that now has "flaps" and crease.

    8. Unfold the last fold, then fold in the side flaps and crease those edges well . Repeat on opposite side (figure F). Stand these two sides up to form the body of the box.

    9. Fold the adjoining sides over the flaps so that their corners meet in the center of the box (figure G).

    10. Use the bone folder to crease the edges of the box from the inside.

    11. To make the box lid, place the self-adhesive paper sticky side down onto the wrong side of the fabric (figure H).

    12. Using your ruler and rotary cutter, trim off the sides of fabric along the 6-inch square of paper.

    13. Follow steps 1 through 6 above.

    14. At this point, very lightly dab a very tiny amount of non-fraying glue to the inside edges that were previously cut.

    15. Continue with steps 7 through 10 to finish the lid.

    Tips:

    - If needed, use double-sided sticky tape under the last two corners folded over .

    - You may use any size square. Typically the bottom is 1/4 inch smaller than the top, but the heavier the paper or fabric, the more you'll need to adjust the size of the bottom square to fit. Light- to medium-weight fabrics work best.

    - Decorate using ribbon, charms, dried or silk flowers, beads, buttons, tassels , fabric trims, etc.

    - You may also use fusible webbing to adhere the fabric to paper, but test your fabric first.

    - Use paper for the box bottom, as fabric could be a bit bulky.

    - Match the paper for the lid as closely as possible to the fabric.
