    Figure E

Project designed by Renee H. Sparks.

    Materials:

various papers of choice such as wrapping paper, wallpaper, copy paper, etc.
    scissors
    patterns for petals
    pencil
    graphite
    white glue
    old credit card
    18-gauge floral wire
    floral tape
optional - faux flower stamens, straight pins with round heads, chenille stems, etc.

    Steps:

    1. Using an old credit card, spread glue in a thin, even layer onto one side of the paper. Carefully fold the paper over and smooth completely with hands. Let dry.

    2. Choose which type of flower to make such a rose, chrysanthemum, peony, etc. Place a graphite sheet on top of the folded piece. Place the pattern sheet on top of the graphite. Using a pencil, trace all the petal patterns for the flower design (figure A).

    3. Cut out all petal pieces with scissors (figure B).

    4. Shape the petals by pressing them into your palm, or by pulling down length of the petal with a fingernail (figure C).

    5. Begin assembling the flower by putting the smallest petal against the end of one piece of floral wire. Wrap with floral tape and stretch while pulling the tape one or two inches down the wire. Continue placing petals and attaching with floral tape, ending with the larger petals on the outside of the flower (figures D and E).

Note: If you desire to add stamens to your flower, begin by placing them against the wire first, then begin adding petals.

    6. Finish off the flower by wrapping floral tape completely down the entire length of the wire.
