Steps: 1. Position the branch stencil onto the piece of furniture as desired and secure with tape.
2. Place a teaspoon of brown-colored stain into a foam cup. Dip a stencil brush into the paint and blot it onto a paper towel to get the bulk of the stain off of the brush (figure A).
3. Tap the brush onto the open areas of the stencil (figure B). Do not swirl the brush to assure that the stain doesn't get under the stencil.
4. Remove the branch stencil (figure C) and place the pine leaves stencil over the stenciled branch image. Secure the image with tape. Load the brush with green-colored paint and tap it onto a napkin. 5. Tap the brush onto the open areas of the stencil. Remove the stencil.
Checkerboard stencil
1. Flush the checkerboard stencil with the edge of the part of furniture being stenciled. With a pencil, mark the bottom corner of the bottom square (figure D). Move the middle square so that it lines up with the the pencil mark, making sure that the last square fits evenly onto the furniture. If not, experiment with the placement of the squares until satisfied.
2. Dip a stencil brush into green-colored paint and blot it onto a paper towel.
3. Swirl the paint onto the openings of the stencil pattern (figure E) and remove the stencil (figure F). Situate the stencil pattern so that the corners of the squares touch the corners of the previously-stenciled squares (figure G).
