Gray's life-sized figures work well as wall pieces.

The Carol Duvall Show camera crew visits downtown Los Angeles to focus on the work of metal artist Bruce Gray.

Gray uses materials such as magnets, aluminum, stainless steel, scrap metal, chimes and metal balls to create metal masterpieces. Creating diverse designs, Gray's work is as varied as the materials he uses. "With metal, whatever pops into my mind, I can make it," he says. "I bounce around all over the place into what I'm working with . . . I've gotten to the point now where there's really not much I can't do. I can have an idea in my head and I can be working on it the same day."

One of Gray's specialties is creating oversized renditions of everyday objects and animals, including large keys, shoes, bugs and even cheese wedges. "When you really kind of look at the shapes that they're comprised of, they're very interesting," he says. Gray also incorporates imaginative uses of shapes in wall sculptures.

Some of Gray's favorite projects are ball machines, having seen one in Europe for the first time as a child. "I was just fascinated," he says. "Kids love them, grown-ups love them, everybody wants to try them." Gray creates these devices through which the ball travels by bending and welding various types of metal and structuring it together to form a path for the ball. He then smoothes the welds with a grinder.

The originality and creativity in Gray's work are endless. "I have so many things that I want to make, I don't know how I'm going to pull off getting it all done," he says.
