Project designed by Karen Thomas. Materials: light color construction or copy paper plastic cotton swabs or coffee stirrers white glue scissors or craft knife acrylic craft paints small paintbrush ruler fine tip permanent pen patterned origami paper - Yasutomo Steps: 1. Remove the cotton from the swab stick to create a surface on which to form the beads. 2. Cut a piece of white copy paper 1-1/4" x 11". Use the template in figure A to draw lines on the paper. 3. Cut the paper carefully along the lines, cutting out the sections as shown in figure B. 4. Start gluing the strips to the stick, wrapping the two top sticks around the stick. Use a brush to apply the glue so it doesn't get too sticky. Then proceed to make the arms by folding the third strip at about 1/2 inch out on both sides of the stick (figure C). Finally, roll and glue the leg and feet area of the bead. Let the bead dry on the stick. 5. Cut a piece of origami paper to cover the arms and legs then glue on for simple, but great-looking clothes. 6. Paint the bead person with acrylic colors and a small brush (figure D). Make facial features with a fine tip permanent pen. Once the paint is dry, coat the bead with clear fingernail polish. Remove it from the stick when completely dry.
