The Carol Duvall Show camera crew visits the National Black Arts Festival, a bi-annual extravaganza held in Atlanta, Ga. The festival features individual and group music, theater and dancing as well as the work of many talented artists from around the country. The festival showcases the work of artists and crafters at the Artist's Market, held at the Clark University Student Center. This juried exhibit for visual artists was created by artist Joy Peters. "I visualize what I want to see," says Peters. "And then I create the excitement that hopefully highlights the work of the artists that are coming." At the most recent show, the Artist's Market featured 72 artists. The show has grow in size, quality and innovation, as many of the artists who attend the show like to experiment with their mediums and aren't afraid to try new techniques. The artists work in a variety of categories such as clothing, jewelry, woodwork, sculptures, and glass. Artist Patricia Boyd attends the Artist's Market to showcase her gourd art. While most gourd artists use the fruits to make bowls and vases, Boyd branches out to create intricate forms of people. Artist Robert Robinson displays his paintings that depict the everyday lifestyles of the African American. Providing a pool of various kinds of artwork, the festival gives the artists the opportunity to feed off of each others' talents. "I think that the Artist's Market has become an exceptional venue because of the participants," says Peters. "The artists who come here understand that it's a privilege and so they put their best foot forward and their most exciting work that they can think of to create because this is their time to shine."
