Steps: 1. Paint the entire inside of the box and lid, the outside edges of the box and one side of the oval cardboard lid liner with with black acrylic paint (figure A). Let dry and then varnish. 2. Cover the top of the box with low loft batting (figure B), followed by silk fabric. Cover the side of the lid with velvet ribbon (figure C).
3. Make a button knob for the box lid by threading a four-inch piece of 22-gauge wire through the button shank. Twist the top of the wire (figure D ). Cover the stem with a piece of silk fabric folded around a small piece of batting. Glue the edges of the silk fabric and roll it around the wire stem (figure E). 4. Insert the wires from the button knob into the center of the box lid. Fold the wires inside the lid and secure with hot glue (figure F). Quickly glue the lid liner to the inside of the lid (figure G).
5. Make the handle by fusing 32-gauge wire between burgundy, wired ribbon and the jacquard ribbon. Glue the handle to the base of the box (figure H). 6. Glue the jacquard and narrow ribbons to the base of the box (figure I).
7. Make three folded roses using 12 inches of one-inch wide ribbon for each rose. Make three mitered leaves using four inches of one-inch wide ribbon for each leaf (figures J and K). Refer to The Secrets of Fashioning Ribbon Flowers for making folded roses and mitered leaves. Combine all together with three, three-inch loops of floral-edged ribbon on a piece of crinoline. 8. Attach the flower composition around the knob and to the fabric with stitches or glue.
