With my love for working with paper, it was a given that this project would appeal to me. Karen Thomas of Yasutomo has the same addiction and I was thrilled when she sent me the very easy, very basic directions for making this clever little card holder that could easily do double duty as a holder for a gift of money. This is beginner origami but the word often intimidates folks so we don't always use it. Folded paper will do. The kind of paper used and whether or not the paper is printed on both sides will obviously determine the appearance of this little holder. On a couple of the sample holders that Karen sent to me, she actually glued two pieces of paper together. The holder that I demonstrated was made with a standard 8-1/2" x 11" sheet of paper. Steps: 1. Place the paper lengthwise wrong side up on a tabletop. Fold it in half horizontally, matching narrow end to narrow end. Unfold. 2. Fold each side panel into the center so that the outside edges meet in the middle of the paper (figure A). Unfold. 3. Fold each end of the paper in 3/4 inch (figure B). Be certain to keep the folds straight. 4. With the side edges still folded, fold each outer corner in to meet the nearest fold (figure C). 5. Fold each side panel in toward the center fold, folding on the previously-creased line (figure D). The edges will no longer meet in the center because of the 3/4-inch fold on each side. 6. Turn entire piece of paper over so that all of the folded edges are on the underneath side. Fold the top edge down 3/4 inch. 7. Fold the entire piece of paper in half horizontally so the bottom edge meets the top edge (figure E). Lift the top edge slightly and slip the corners into the folded corners on the underneath piece. Fold the paper along the center fold. The paper pocket is now complete with two pockets on the inside and two on the outside.
