Project designed by Jane Beard Materials: Museum of Modern Rubber rubber stamps - small snowflake - #F-830 - medium snowflake - #H-829 - large snowflake #M-828 small "lunch-bag" size paper bags card stock repositionable adhesive scissors or hobby knife spray paint clear embossing ink pad clear embossing powder metallic ink stamp pad Steps: Technique 1 - Paper Mask 1. Select a design (a large, bold design works best). Use stencils or even die-cuts to make the mask. 2. Draw or stamp the design onto the card stock. Cut the design from the card stock. Apply repositionable adhesive to the back of the shapes. Lay them in place on the bag (figure A). 3. Spray paint the bag as desired (figure B). 4. After the paint dries, remove the cutout images and repeat the process on the back of the bag. 5. To spray the sides of the bag, open the bag and use a sheet of plain card stock to protect the front surface while spraying the side edges. 6. Put an inch of sand or cat litter in the bottom of the bag and add a candle (figure C). Technique 2 - Rubber Stamp Resist 1. Stamp a design onto the bag using clear embossing ink. Pour clear embossing powder onto the design. Tap off the excess. Heat the powder until melted. 2. Stamp over the entire surface of the bag using the metallic stamp pad itself (figure D). Take a paper towel and rub the excess ink off the embossed design. This will leave the previously stamped design as the "clear" lighted part of the bag. 3. Put an inch of sand or cat litter in the bottom of the bag and add a candle.
