    Figure G

Project designed by Sheila Haynes Rauen.

    Materials:

rayon or other synthetic fabric article of clothing - featured project used a tank top
Deka heat transfer paints in desired colors - discontinued, use any desired heat transfer paint
    plain copy or computer paper
    newspaper
    paintbrushes
copies of designs made with a copy machine that uses toner
Marvy Uchida extra jumbo flower craft punch
    scissors
    iron

    Steps:

    1. Shake heat transfer paint then brush two or three coats of the desired colors onto plain, non-absorbent paper (figure A). Allow each coat to dry before applying the next.

    2. After preparing enough painted papers in desired colors, clean all paintbrushes with soap and water.

    3. To prepare the images from the copier, cut around the edges of image designs with scissors (figure B). Cut the same shape out of the painted paper.

    4. Place newspaper on an ironing surface with a sheet of white paper on top. Position the cut piece of painted paper face up on the paper-covered ironing surface. Place the copied, cutout image on top of this--image side down (figure C). Place another piece of white paper on top of the cutouts.

    5. Iron as directed by the paint manufacturer (figure D) to create a colored, paper transfer of the copied image (figure E).

    6. Using a sheet of clean paper underneath the fabric and one sheet on top of the image, iron the design onto a article of clothing (figure F).

    6. To prepare the images from the craft punch, punch out the design from painted paper. Position it face down on the fabric with a plain sheet of white paper on top (figure G) and iron as directed. There is no need for any further heat setting.
