optional: graphite paper and pencil - for pattern
    optional: electric bread knife
optional: colored pencils and stencil creams
    fabric markers

    Steps:

    Preparation

    1. Reinforce the joints of the drawer, if necessary, with wood glue and countersunk screws.
    2. Fill any holes with wood filler.

    Attaching Feet

    1. If the bottom panel of your drawer feels unstable or is thin, you will need to reinforce it before attaching feet. To do this, cut 1/2" plywood to size.
    2. At each corner, drive three screws through top side of plywood into a ball finial (figure A).
    3. Add glue and screw plywood to bottom panel of drawer.

    Add Moldings and Paint

    1. To hide raw edges of the new plywood bottom, nail decorative moldings around bottom edges of drawer (figure A).
    2. Repeat along the top edges of the drawer.
    3. Prime and paint the entire piece with White acrylic paint.
    4. Paint the ball finial feet with Bahama Purple.
    5. Leave the sides of the footstool plain, or create a folk-art mural as follows:
      - Enlarge and transfer the pattern to the sides of the footstool using graphite paper and a pencil.
      - Fill in shapes with acrylic paint.
      - For easy shading, use colored pencils or stencil creams over the dry paint.
    6. Spatter entire piece with various colors of paint.
    7. When paint is dry, apply a clear acrylic sealer.

    Padded Top

    1. Cut a 1/2" piece of plywood to fit the outer dimensions of the drawer; cut another piece to fit just inside the drawer.
    2. Center smaller piece on larger and temporarily countersink and screw in place. Make reference marks on board so the pieces will be easily matched up again, then remove screws and separate the pieces.
    3. Prime and paint small piece of plywood white. Set aside to dry.
    4. Cut 4" foam to fit on top of larger plywood piece, using an electric bread knife for easy cutting. Use knife to trim and round off the top edges.
    5. Use staple gun to secure bottom edge of foam to larger plywood piece (figure B).
    6. Cover foam with a thick layer of batting.
    7. Cut fabric to cover foam and plywood edges.
    8. Stretch fabric smoothly over foam, working from the center of one side to the other and securing in place (along the edge of the plywood) with a staple gun.
    9. Continue stretching and stapling until you reach the corners. Neatly pleat fabric at corners and staple in place. Trim excess fabric.
    10. Cover exposed staples along edge of plywood with cording, using fabric glue.
    11. Screw the two pieces of plywood back together. Set on top of the footstool.

    Celestial Fabric Topper

    1. Wash and press cotton duck fabric.
    2. Lay fabric flat on newspaper in a protected area.
    3. Cut out moon and stars using an adhesive-backed paper. Stick the shapes onto fabric.
    4. Evenly spray Blue Design Master paint onto the canvas. Start with lighter blues along the edges and gradually spray darker blues toward the middle.
    5. Peel off mood and star shapes.
    6. Lightly spatter fabric with various colors of acrylic paint.
    7. Add details to moon's face using fabric markers.
