Doll hair brings to mind images of wispy, human hair-like substances, but guest Barbara Johnston proves doll hair can be made from any variety of materials. Johnston shows a display of dolls with hair made from: Christmas tinsel feathers Easter basket filling upholstery fringe silk flowers autumn leaves cellophane strips pearls pot scrubbers pantyhose unreeled audio tape ribbon bows cotton balls raffia, plastic netting curling ribbon sphagnum moss packing material chenille yarn dyed mohair seashells fur commercial hair material packaging twine plastic netting Doll Wigs Doll wigs can be used over and over again. Materials: light fabric pen plastic wrap craft glue, preferably one that is flexible and transparent when it dries wig material (any of the materials listed above) doll head Steps: - Make a wig base by marking hairline on doll head using light fabric pen (figure A).
- Cover head with plastic wrap.
- Trim edges according to marked hairline to form wig base (figure B).
- Cover wig base with craft glue.
- Place wig material on wet glue and allow to dry thoroughly (figure C).
Dreadlocks
Materials: black pantyhose scissors needle and thread decorative beads
Steps: - Cut one leg of pantyhose crosswise to form two-inch rings (figure D).
- Stretch each ring sidewise to make the raw edges fold in (figure E).
- Sew rings onto doll head.
- Embellish by sliding decorative beads up onto rings (figure F).
