Projects by Pat Desantis.Formal Chair Cover Materials: fabric of choice with no "wrong" side* beaded trims gimp braid (enough to go around the scarf x 2) Wright's cord with tassels Wright's tassel chair pad form double-sided iron-on hem tape fabric glue *To determine amount of fabric needed, measure the chair seat and the width of the chair back by the desired length (usually 16 inches square will do for a standard chair seat). Steps: 1. Place two layers of fabric on the work surface, flat with right sides together (figure A). 2. Mark a square 18" x 18" on the fabric (figure B). 3. Mark the position where the pad will be tied to the chair back. It may not always be at the very back corners. 4. Find the center of the cord with tassels and insert about 3 inches into position for the ties. On the right side of one piece of fabric, being careful to keep the loose ends of cords free, make a loop and pin in place. 5. Glue in two spots where the cord sits on fabric at the seam line (figure C). Allow to dry well. 6. With rights sides together, fuse or glue one piece of fabric to the other, leaving a 6-inch opening in the back to insert the form. Be careful not to catch the ties. 7. Turn the cover to right side. Insert the cushion into the cover and glue the opening closed (figure D). Tie to chair back at each corner.

For a chair that does not have a flat, straight back like ours did, we made a scarf (very much like a table runner). That way you are not dealing with points at the top where the chair sides meet the actual back.Steps: 1. Measure the width of the chair back to determine the width for your back cover. There's no need for a seam allowance or hem, as you are using it straight. Measure how long you want it to hang and add approximately 16 inches for folding over the back of the chair. Cut the fabric. 2. Make a point at one end similar to a table runner. To do this, fold this piece of fabric in half width-wise, measure down an amount equal to the width of the chair back, and mark this point at each end (figure E). 3. Cut from these markings to the center fold at the top, making an equal angle (figure F). 4. On the wrong side of the fabric, glue beaded trim around entire edge, starting and ending at one corner. Be sure to place the "skirt" of the trim on the fabric with beads hanging beyond the edge (figure G). 5. Glue gimp braid over this "skirt" along the entire edge (figure H). Turn over and glue the gimp over the right side of the fabric, encasing the raw edge of the scarf. 6. Add the tassel to the point (figure I). 7. Drape the scarf over the chair back and pin under the tassel at the point where it reaches to the wrong side of the back.

Outdoor Garden Chair Decoration Materials: assorted silk florals assorted silk greens (one actual swag) Wright's ribbons (2 types and colors) floral tape wire wire cutters hot glue & glue gun outdoor chairs Steps: 1. Measure chair back to determine how many florals are needed. Measure chair height to determine how much ribbon is needed for bow and streamers to reach the ground. 2. Lay flowers on table and, starting with the swag as the base, add flower stems to one side of the arrangement. Wire together (figure J). 3. For a special effect, we made an asymmetrical arrangement with the bow off-center and the floral stems only on one side. 4. Make a big loopy bow with the widest ribbon first, adding the second, thinner color in the center with several lengths of streamers to loop through the floral spray (figure K). Add several long streamers to cascade onto the ground. 5. Attach to the swag just off center, leaving extra wire to attach to the chair back (figure L). Wire the swag at the second side to secure. Note: Twist and cover any wire ends with floral tape to prevent the wire from damaging clothing.
