If your child's room is a mess, perhaps you can make neatness more fun. Give the kids some small plastic containers with wheels for storing small toys, then build a "garage" for the containers from shelving boards. Materials:
1" x 12" x 8' shelving board 1" x 4" x 8' board Drill, with drill bits and a Phillips driver bit All-purpose Phillips-head screws Circular saw Paint and paintbrush Safety glasses - Fill one of the wheeled containers and measure its height.
- Add 2" to that measurement. This will be the height of your toy garage.
- Transfer the measurement to the shelving board, and cut two side pieces (figure A).
- Drill pilot holes in the top board, 3/8" from each end. Secure the top board to the side boards with screws.
- Measure the top board, and cut the 1" by 4" board to the same length.
- Drill pilot holes in the 1" by 4" board, 3/8" from each end, and secure it to the upper rear of the toy garage.
- Sand the assembly, and paint it as desired.
