This garage screen (left) is perfect for letting fresh air in while keeping pesky bugs out! To take it down (right), all you have to do is unsnap it and store it away.

Time: 14 hours over two days.

    Difficulty Rating: It's rated a 2 on a scale of 1 to 5.

    Materials for Complete Project:

Modular cabinets and shelving (pre-ordered kit)
    15" x 8' slotted wall panels (pre-ordered)
    PVC flooring tiles
    Storage accessories
    Stud finder (magnetic or electronic)
    Drill with bits and drivers
    Phillips screwdriver
    Rubber mallet
    Level
Anchors for both block and drywall
    Table saw or jigsaw
    Utility knife (optional)

    Installing the Slotted Panels

Note: These slotted panels easily can be installed by one person. They're not only easy to work with, but since the panels have one continuous long channel, they give you flexibility once they're in place.

The panels are installed by using a special clip called the "Hang Up" (figure A). It works by fitting into slots at the back of the panels.

    1. Find the studs and draw a line down the wall to show where they are.

    2. Screw the bracket (Hang Up) into the stud with 8" x 2" screws.

    3. Use a level, mark the location for the second bracket and screw it in.

    4. Insert brackets into the slot in the back of the panel. Hang the slotted panel (figure B). Slide it into place and it's all set.

    5. Once the panel is in place, put a series of screws directly through slots of the panel into the studs. This will give the panel plenty of strength to hold heavy objects.

    6. Once the first panel is in place, repeat the process for the remaining panels. The panels can stack as high as you need to go.

    7. Put in hooks and accessories into the slots, and you're ready to start hanging items -- a rake, hose and shovel (figure C), for example.

    Installing the Garage Door Screen

Note: If you want to keep your garage doors open during the spring and summer, you may want to consider installing some screening. The product Ryan chose comes with snaps and is easy to install.

    1. Start in the corner and push on one of the snaps to make a small indentation in the wood.

    2. Attach the corresponding snap.

    3. Continue the process along the perimeter of the garage.

    4. Snap the screen into place.
