- Left Wall (figure B)
- Back Wall (figure C)
Order what you need for this project, and you're set to go! Tip: The biggest mistake most people make when reorganizing their garage is not getting rid of all the junk that's accumulated over the years. Now is the perfect time to have a garage sale or to make some donations to a charity. This will definitely make organizing your garage much easier. Before you start this project there are some options for the flooring to consider: - You could use an epoxy garage floor covering. The preparation work for this popular solution is vital. If you don't get up all the grease and dirt the epoxy won't stick. This is a heavy-duty coating that comes in two parts that have to be mixed. It costs approximately $240 to do a two-car garage, and it takes at least two days to dry.
- The easy way out is to use what the host of DIY's Weekend Handyman, Paul Ryan chose -- interlocking PVC floor tiles (figure D) that lay right over the existing floor. You don't need any special tools or adhesives. The only tool you'll need is a saw to trim the edges. The floor tiles/panels come in a variety of colors as well.
Installing the Floor Tiles - Lay the panels down and lock them together. Ryan chose to use black tiles around the perimeter of the garage and yellow tiles with holes in them in front of the door, which will trap dirt that can be swept away easily.
- Use a rubber mallet to pound the tiles together.
- Trim the tabs (figure E) with a utility knife if you're working around something such as molding. For contrast, Ryan placed down silver tiles in the middle of the floor where the vehicles will go.
Note: These tiles are extremely durable. Oil stains and drips wipe right up. These floors can stand up to major abuse and they come with a 10-year warranty. - To make narrow strips, trim the tiles with a table saw, leaving tabs to lock into the full-size tile.
- Lay a series of tapered-edge strips (figure F) along the front to finish.
