The homeowners are fortunate in that the emerging nursery has several built-in storage areas, which will come in handy as the baby gets older. The built-in chest of drawers requires little more than a fresh coat of paint and some yellow gingham-check paper in order to be usable. In the drawers, small clear-plastic organizers serve to keep tiny accessories in order.
In the shortest wall is a large, low closet, its interior marred by exposed bales of insulation, unpainted walls and a raw plywood floor (figure A). A good cleaning and painting and the addition of Berber carpet transforms the closet into a storage area that can also in years to come serve as an ideal play space for an older child (figure B).
The room's clothes closet is outfitted with a double rod for hanging diminutive garments, and a canvas shoe rack is pressed into service to hold assorted baby items such as bottles and small stuffed toys (figure C).
