Bring the garden indoors and add decorative storage space to your kitchen as well with an ivy-covered arbor turned into a baker's rack. Buy an arbor at a garden center, and add shelves made of 3/4" plywood cut to size. Set the shelves in place on 1" by 2" furring strips installed on the inside walls of the arbor as shelf supports (figure A). Paint the shelves a solid color, or add a marbleized finish for a more elegant look. Make a stemware rack by attaching rabbeted molding to the bottom of one of the shelves. Two pieces of L-shaped molding installed facing each other form a two-sided ledge that will hold a row of stemware in place (figure B). Measure the diameter of the base of a piece of stemware, and attach the two pieces of molding to accommodate the stem and base of the glass. Add cup hooks to the bottom of the shelves to hold kitchen utensils, and decorate the lattice sides of the arbor with twined ivy.
