    You can make use of the space below your shelves as well as on top of them. For instance, you can install jars to hold screws and washers.

    Remove the shelf from the wall, and position the jars to determine the best placement. Screw the lids to the underside of the shelf (figure A).

    Attach the shelf to the wall. Fill the jars, and attach them to the lids (figure B).

    Milk jugs make good storage containers for nuts, bolts and other small parts. Mark and cut out an opening in the top front of the jug (figure C). Then lay the jug on its side and fill it with whatever you want to store. To help keep track of what's in the jug, label the cap with a permanent marker (figure D).
