Host Tom Corvin and security/crime prevention specialist Sharen Dorcon tour a home broken into three times. Dorcon has a few suggestions that will thwart burglars from this -- or any other -- home. - Perception - When trying to dissuade burglars from approaching, perception is key. Consider adding a doghouse, a chain around a tree, or a "beware of dog" sign as deterrents.
- Lighting - Criminals depend upon the protective cloak of darkness. Eliminate shadows and hiding with strategically-placed outdoor lighting. (Lighting, Dorcon says, is especially effective in preventing crimes against person.)
- Landscaping - In tandem with low lighting, criminals also look for homes with low windows and high bushes that can camouflage their approach. Trim back high bushes, and consider planting prickly holly bushes under windows.
