By Holly Christian Craft designer and writer Try this awesome teen party activity! Have teens use an instant camera to take shots of one another as their favorite rock star, then let them design scrapbook pages combining photos of the celebrity with real shots. Cover the album with pale pink fake fur edged in hot pink ostrich trim, and dress up the scrapbook pages with glam materials like glitter, feathers and fur. Glam Album Cover Fake fur alone makes a wonderfully outrageous scrapbook cover. Add a fringe of ostrich trim and this scrapbook is delightfully over the top. Note: Ostrich feathers comprise lots of feather boas but no ostrich sacrifice was necessary to create ostrich trim. Ostrich trim is an all rayon-feathered fringe , available by the yard at your favorite fabric store. Materials: post-bound album or similar type of album that disassembles easily fake fur (about 2" larger than the scrapbook cover all the way around) ostrich trim (the length of the perimeter of the album cover plus 4") seam binding to match fake fur sewing scissors straight pins sewing needle thread to match ostrich trim fabric glue - Disassemble the post-bound album following the directions included with the scrapbook. Set aside the posts that hold the album together.
- Cut a piece of fake fur about 2" larger than the cover all the way around. For a 10" x 12" album cover, I used a 14" square piece of fake fur.
- The ostrich trim follows the edge of the finished scrapbook cover. Determine the proper placement of the trim on the fur, and pin it in place with the fringe facing outward. Overlap the trim where the two ends meet.
- Hand-stitch the ostrich trim in place on the fake fur. Machine stitching is also an option.
- Arrange the fringed fur face down and place the album cover face down on top of it, making sure the outside edge of the album cover is aligned with the fringe . With the fake fur and the album cover still both face down, apply fabric glue to each corner of the back of the album cover. Gently pull the fabric at each corner over the glue and hold in place. If the fake fur is very thick you may want to cut away a "V" of fabric at each corner before gluing.
- Gently pull the fabric on each side of the album to the back and glue in place .
- Finish the inside of the cover by gluing seam binding over the raw edge of the fur.
- Reassemble the scrapbook. Use the tip of your scissors to poke a small hole in the fake fur where it covers the album cover postholes.
Glam Scrapbook Pages Click here for printable template for the Glam Rock page. - Have everyone dress up like a favorite celebrity and then take Polaroid pictures of each other hamming it up.
- Combine photos of the celebrity with the Polaroids on the scrapbook pages. Use templates to add cool cutouts of kissing lips and stars-in-the-eyes shades.
- Create a page title using silver or gold opaque writers. I've improved the look of my titles by sketching the letters lightly with a graphite or non-photo blue pencil before lettering with a permanent marker. When the lettering is dry, erase the pencil lines with a white vinyl pencil eraser.
- Sparkle and texture make the pages come alive. Add glitter, feathers, and fur to your creation. It was fun in preschool and it still is!
- To make the title sparkle, follow the outline of the letters with a glue pen, then sprinkle with glitter.
Remember: Never crop a Polaroid photo! The chemicals will leak out, spoiling your photo and your scrapbook page.
