This page was created in only 20 minutes -- thanks to Tricia Morris's mathematical formula!

Tricia Morris shares her technique for mathematical matting -- a technique that produces foolproof results regardless of paper size.

    Click here for a diagram of matting for both 8-1/2" x 11" and 12" x 12" paper.

Instructions may be viewed by using

    Creating Mats with 8-1/2" x 11" Paper

    1. Cut an 8.5x11 sheet of paper into four equal pieces ... in half the long way and the short way. (This is where your measuring skills will be needed.)

    2. Crop 3/4" from the long size of four 4" x 6" photos. (The new measurement will be 4" x 5-1/4".

    3. Pair the photos with the paper mats created in step one. Each photo will have a 1/8" mat.

    Creating Mats with 12" x 12" Paper

    1. Cut 12" x 12" sheet in half to create two sheets measuring 6" x 12".

    2. Next, cut the 6" x "12 sheet into three equal pieces, measuring 4" x 6" each.

    3. Crop 1/4" from six 4" x 6" photos. The new measurement will be 3-3/4" x 5-3/4".

    4. Pair the photos with the paper mats created in step one. Each photo will have a 1/8" surrounding mat.

    New Orleans page

    Materials:

    12" x 12" copper print paper
    2 sheets 8-1/2" x 11" solid teal
    8-1/2" x 11" sheet of solid copper
    Renaissance Stickers and Alphabet Stickers
    Copper Magic Mesh
    Photographs

    1. Crop six photos to 4" x 5-1/4". Create photo mats with the teal paper using directions for making mattes with 8-1/2" x 11" paper (above).

    2. Position and adhere the photos onto the page, then use the large frame stickers and 1" alphabet stickers to create the page title on the remaining sheet of 8-1/2" x 11" teal paper. Mount onto mesh.

    3. Create a journaling box on a copper square and mat with teal. Use a sticker at the upper left corner of the box.
