Kits and pre-package patterned papers are a great way to mat your photos quickly. Here, designer Sara Douglass offers a few tips for using these supplies to your greatest advantage.

    • When working with a pre-packaged kit, look for elements that can be used in different ways. Look for small embellishments that can be layered over photo corners. Or, instead of bordering your photo or matting in a typical fashion, mat your photo, then add patterned strips over the photo, inset from the edges.

    • Stamp all accents for your page and cut out (here, a frame and two fish are among the stamp motifs used). A pre-cut frame is an easy way to add another layer to a matted photo. Don't be afraid to get creative with your stamps.

    • Stamp corners of a piece of cardstock, then cut away. Use the corners to accent your photo.
