A back-stitch is used to fill in gaps and create a continuously stitched line.

Julie Larsen shares a technique for creating stitched pockets on a scrapbook page.

    Materials:

Solid and patterned paper in coordinating shades
    Scrapbook Stitches
    Eyelets
    Needle
    Paper Piercer
    Self-healing mat

    1. Tear 1-1/2" x 12", 5" x 12" and 3" x 12" strips of a single shade of paper. Tear one edge from strips. Mount 1-1/2" x 12" strip at the top of page. Mount 5" x 12" strip at the bottom of page. Mount 3" x 12" strip over 5" x 12" strip. Use a needle, paper piercer and 48" of scrapbook stitches to sew pieces on page. Create pockets in bottom piece by using a needle, paper piercer and 12" of scrapbook stitches to sew two lines 4" apart.

    2. Create tags by trimming six 1-1/2" x 3" strips of paper in a different pattern and mount on solid dark paper. Trim leaving a thin border on three sides and a 1/4" border on remaining side. Mount a matching eyelet at the top of each tag. Thread a 6" scrapbook stitches through eyelets to create tassel. Mount tags in pocket.

    3. Mount photos on solid paper, trim and mount on a patterned paper. Trim leaving a thin border and mount on page.

    4. Create title by trimming three 2" x 3" strips of patterned paper. Use a pencil to write title on title squares. Use a needle, paper piercer and 24" of scrapbook stitches to sew title on title squares. Mount title squares on solid dark paper, trim leaving a thin border and mount over pockets.
