Anna Griffin shares two techniques with host Sandi Genovese. The first technique uses a zipper to create a vellum pocket; the second uses cording as a border to photos and page embellishments.

    Zipper Pocket

    Materials:

    1 sheet - AG024 Fleur Rouge
    1 sheet - AGO04 Green/Cream stripe
    1 sheet - 11" x 17" vellum
    1 sheet - AG242 Journal page
    Craft Knife
    Adhesive (clear)
    Burnisher
    Ruler
    Hole punch
    9 cream colored zipper
5" length of 1/4" green satin ribbon
    Miscellaneous pictures and mementos

    1. Cut four strips from the green/cream striped paper and adhere strips along each edge of the red floral paper. Miter the corners.

    2. Cut vellum sheet to 10-1/4" x 15-3/4". Score sheet with burnisher horizontally measuring 1", 8", and 6-3/4". Fold on score lines to make pocket.

    3. Place zipper between ends of vellum pocket with the zipper underneath the vellum (trims ends of zipper if needed). Adhere zipper with clear adhesive (figure A). Then adhere both sides of the pocket.

    4. Cut three strips from green striped paper and adhere along the edges of the vellum pocket. Then adhere pocket to the red floral paper.

    5. Laser print or write journal message on journaling template. Attach tag by punching hole at the top center and tying to zipper pull with green satin ribbon (figure B).

    Cording

    Materials:

    2 sheets - AG101 Gold/Pink roses
    1 sheet - AG066 Turquoise/Green stripe
    1 sheet - AG085 Pink floral
    1 sheet - AGO03 Green Plume
    1 sheet - AG242 Green journal template
    1 sheet - 8-1/2 x 11 vellum
    Craft knife
    Ruler
    Adhesive
    Foam Tape
    Scotch tape
    Decorative-edged Scissors (scallop)
    Craft needle
    Burnisher
    Blue cording
    Blue satin embroidery ribbon
    Buttons
    2 - 4" x 6" photographs

    1. Cut four1" x 10-1/2" strips from the pink floral paper. Trim one edge of each strip with decorative scissors. Using craft knife, cut small 1/4" slits along decorative edge. Using a ruler, bend slit edges slightly so they face upward. Adhere strips in a 10-1/2" x 10-1/2" square on a sheet of the gold/yellow roses paper.

    2. Cut green plume paper to a 10-1/2" x 10-1/2" square. Adhere blue cording around green paper. Sewing tip: Cut small slits in cording (figure C) to round corners. Next, tuck ends underneath paper and adhere with tape. Attach green paper with cording to the center of the pink square.

    3. Cut four 1" x 12" strips from the aqua stripe paper using the stripe patterns as your guide. Trim one edge of each strip with decorative scissors. Use craft knife to cut small 1/4" slits along decorative edge. Then, use ruler to bend slit edges slightly so they face upward. Tape two strips together to create one long strip. Fold strip at a 90- degree angle to begin making frame. When folding, pleat the corner to miter the edge. Fold frame to approximately 4" x 5". Repeat this with the two remaining strips. Adhere photographs inside frames (figure D). Adhere frames to the green center.

    4. To make vellum pockets, cut two 2-1/4" x 3-1/2" rectangles from the gold/pink roses paper and vellum paper. Place vellum on top of roses rectangle. With burnisher, mark where ribbon is to be treaded through paper.

    5. Thread needle with blue satin embroidery ribbon and sew pockets together. Adhere pockets to green center paper. Add a blue button to embellish the pocket (figure E).

    6. Use craft knife to cut several rose patterns from the remaining gold/yellow roses paper. Adhere roses around frames with foam tape. Write or laser print journal template in rectangle patterns. Cut to fit inside pockets.
