Designer Linda Sarine shares her secret for creating artistic background effects: pigment ink. Materials: Acid-free pigment ink Stylus tool with ink pad Paper towels Permanent ink refill in assorted colors Folded acetate report cover sheet Cardstock Glossy cardstock Soft Background Effects and Color - To create a softer background page, use a pigment pad to lightly swirl color over the page (figure A). Blend with paper towel.
- Use stylus to layer darker designs (as desired) over the background. Blend lightly with paper towel.
Tie-dyed Effect - To create a tie-dyed design, try dropping different colors of permanent ink inside a folded acetate report cover (figure B). Close covers and spread ink with fingers, or by tapping the surface with your hand.
- Insert two sheets of glossy cardstock back-to-back inside the cover. Spread ink by pressing the outside of the cover. After transferring ink to the cardstock, carefully remove and allow to dry thoroughly.
