... was the inspiration for this color-blocked page. To see designer Gaye Sgamboti demonstrate her technique, watch this short video.

Designer Gaye Sgamboti was so inspired by a colorful, cheery greeting card, she decided to borrow the design for a special scrapbook page.

    Materials:

    Four complementary colors of cardstock
    Various patterned papers to match
    White vellum
    Pencil
    Ruler or paper trimmer
    Computer and printer for title
    Small sun punch
    Adhesive

    1. Begin by sectioning the background page, using a paper trimmer (without the blade) or ruler -- and pencil -- for accuracy (figure A). Tip: Using the paper trimmer, instead of just a ruler, allows for precise paper placement -- the paper can be placed against the guides. Make each row the same height and each column the same width to create a grid.

    2. Then, measure the dimensions of each square and record in the center of each (figure B).

    3. Cut rectangles from a variety of patterned and solid paper, with dimensions 1/4" smaller than the corresponding grid square on the page.

    4. Adhere blocks to corresponding grid squares, mixing placement of colors and patterns (figure C). Erase all visible pencil lines.

    5. Next, print title on vellum. Adhere to upper left side of page, placing glue strategically. Adhere small, cheerful die-cuts (figure D) or stickers to hide any adhesive that shows through the vellum.
