Scrapbooking expert Rebecca Ludens -- who teaches paper piecing classes -- shares a few tips with DIY Scrapbooking host Sandi Genovese. - Use Saral Transfer PaperB. to transfer patterns onto paper or cardstock (figure A). First, place the transfer paper face down on cardstock or paper and use a stylus to trace over the pattern.
- Keep in mind that scanning a pattern can allow it to be enlarged or reduced to the perfect size, then printed directly onto the colored cardstock or paper of your choice. If pattern is printed on "economy" mode, it can be traced over with a marker or pen, then chalked (figure B). Tip: For ease and precision, both chalking and drawing should be done before shape is cut away from cardstock.
- Enhance patterns with die cuts to save time. This will create the look of a lot of paper piecing with less time spent cutting, assembling and embellishing. Paper tearing is yet another quick way to complete a layout.
- To get more mileage from patterns, re-use for gift cards and bags.
